Month 10 - Getting her Wings

From Month 10

We had lots of fun during Month 10. Charlotte and Mommy spent a whole weekend alone while daddy went scuba diving - we missed him sooo much! Click "READ MORE" or the picture to hear more about our month and see fun pictures!

We had a very nice surprise visit from Auntie Jess and Nancy. Auntie Jess spent the whole weekend with us; we read, went to the park, played in tunnels, went to the bookstore, and took lots of pictures. Charlotte discovered a newfound love for necklaces and glasses as she tried to eat them all weekend long.

Last month we mentioned all of the signing that Charlotte has been learning, well she definitely has her favorites and this month dog and plane won out. Charlotte can spot a dog from miles away and she can hear/see a plane in the sky a good 30 seconds before either Rick or I can. Unfortunately this lead to a lot of "Good signing Charlotte, but there is no (dog/airplane)", only to be quickly followed by, "Holy cow, there IS a (dog/airplane) how did she see that?"

Charlotte's airplane signing perfectly coincided with our airplane trip to Seattle. The entire time at the airports and on the runways Charlotte was mesmerized by the planes. It was a great distraction . When deplaning she even did her sign to the pilot who responded,"Did you know that is the sign for airplane?" which was followed by louder "brrrrrr" noises and hand thrusts by Charlotte (yes, we did know...) When we thought we couldn't get any luckier ... our hotel in Vancouver had a baby-friendly balcony that overlooked the harbor giving us a perfect view of all the seaplanes taking off and landing! Heaven for Charlotte!

Charlotte and daddy got to explore Seattle while I attended the Sleep conference. They walked all over town, visiting the Space Needle, the Aquarium, Pike Market, the original Seattle's Best Coffee House, and even took a Harbor cruise. Charlotte did a great job traveling, however, it became clear very quickly that she was missing her friends and her normal social interactions. The elevator became her favorite meeting place. She actually started saying "Hi" and would say it to anyone she saw trying to get them to pay attention to her (yes, a few had the audacity not to give our little girl the time of day!). She oozed cuteness!

The drive to Vancouver was nice, and I'm so proud of Rick for not telling the Border Patrol that the purpose of our trip to Canada was to get some "ho's" (Timmy Ho's, a.k.a. Tim Horton's, a.k.a. yummy donuts). We had a relaxing time in Vancouver walking around, visiting Stanley Park, having our first bite of gelato (shhh!), and watching the seaplane's. We also did our obligatory visit to Costco and Rick couldn't leave Canada without some hockey gear (especially since he had to celebrate the loss of Detroit, or was it the win of Pittsburgh?).

Despite all of the fun associated with traveling, coming home never felt better and Charlotte couldn't have agreed more, she crawled straight to her room when we got in and proceed to pull out ALL of her books off her book shelf for us to read!
